An ancient proverb says:  ‘Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day. Teach a man how to fish and you feed him for a lifetime.’  Teaching a person a useful skill can be more beneficial in the long run than filling a need for them temporarily, that’s basically the meaning of this proverb.  Although the saying is not really ancient - it is only 137 yrs old but the meaning is clear.  At its core it is referring to wisdom.

“Happy is the man that findeth wisdom, And the man that getteth understanding. For the merchandise of it is better than the merchandise of silver, And the gain thereof than fine gold. She is more precious than rubies: And all the things thou canst desire are not to be compared unto her.”

‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭3‬:‭13‬-‭15‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“How much better is it to get wisdom than gold! And to get understanding rather to be chosen than silver!”

‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭16‬:‭16‬ ‭KJV‬‬.

God shows us throughout the Bible that wisdom is the principle thing and the fear or “respect” of the Lord is the beginning of Wisdom.  In other words,  prosperity in the hands of a fool will lead to his destruction and poverty.  More than one third of lottery winners declare bankruptcy within 5 yrs.  This is because they are still living in the poverty mindset.  We need to know what God’s Word says about finances and prosperity.

We have talked about how it is God’s plan to prosper us, but we must understand how to take what He provides and to invest or sow it into good ground so we can reap a harvest.  In other words to be wise with money or it will sift through our fingers like holding onto a handful of sand.  To be continued…
